WQ – Ideas Are Easy
Coming up with ideas is the easiest thing on earth. Putting them down is the hardest. -Rod Serling
As much as I’m disappointed by the amount of white space in my notebooks that space is quickly getting filled up with a variety of ideas for new stories, posts, or elements to include in current stories. I have enough ideas to keep me writing for months if I tried (and could devote that time). The hard part is fleshing out those ideas and giving them life.
As writers, we’ll have so many fantastical ideas that we can jot down in our notebooks, but as soon as we put pen to paper to create the story the words dry up. All the water has drained from the pond and we’re left floundering in the mud. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if that spring of ideas would also give life to the story and never stop flowing? Well, I guess everyone that had ever had an idea could easily be a writer then. All our hard work would mean nothing.
Writers do the hard work and put down their ideas. We flesh them out and give them life. Doesn’t that make the hard work worthwhile: seeing an idea come to life? I think it does.
