Getting Back in the Habit
I brushed off the keyboard and a cloud of dust rose to sting my eyes and catch in my nose and throat. I wave the cloud away while a bout of coughing lays claim on me for a few moments. When my eyes clear and the dust is expelled I see everything is just how I left it.
August 24–I checked–the date of my last post. A lot has happened since then. I was promoted to Production Manager at the theatre; I started my second theatre job as a stagehand; I started working on A Streetcar Named Desire (which closed as of November 26th); and the writing things got away from me. In October, I stuck my toes into the writing challenge pond to attempt to write 10,000 words that month. I got about 1,000 words in before work pulled me violently away again. I (very) briefly entertained the thought of attempting NaNoWriMo. Haha, I amuse myself sometimes…
I’ve been sitting in a limbo of writer’s block. I want to write but I have nothing to say.
I bought some new journals near the beginning of November–I finally found some dot-grid journals when I stopped in at Michael’s for something–so I’ve been feeling more productive. I’m setting up one journal as my Bullet Journal for 2018, then I have a second for other endevors (those endevors have yet to be determined). I always feel a brust of productive energy whenever I find a new journal (or just spend some time in a craft store) so that’s been helping a lot the past few weeks.
In my time away I’ve also given some new thought to what I want this blog space to be. It started out as a space to share my writing and my thoughts on writing, then it became a little bit of everything, and now I need to narrow my focus again. I’m working on a comprehensive post about this, but basically I’m going to stick with writing and theatre and whatever I can logically link to those two paths.
There’s probably more I could discuss here, but I’m still sorting some thoughts out, so those will come in future posts. But I’m getting back into the blogging pool, I just have to stick to the shallow end for the moment.
I hope things have been well for all of you since August. I’m working my way through reading some of the posts I’ve missed. But that’s all for now. Back to the writing so I can post again soon.
